Client: Darlene Taylor, PhD

Collaborators: Temperance St. Productions

Project Description:

The client wanted a WordPress site to showcase her PhD research on determining the capacity of a patient to consent to medical treatment if they misuse substances. The project had three components: the site itself, an interactive tool based on her thesis and branding.

Solution:

Web Site:

Working with a project manager who acted as an intermediary between the client and myself, I designed wireframes, first on paper, then in OmniGraffle to give begin building the site. Once the wireframes were approved, I searched for a WordPress theme that would suit the needs of the client and allow me to create layouts similar to the wireframes. I input the clients content into the site, ensuring it was readable to users on multiple devices.

Interactivity:

A Major component of the site included an interactive tool to showcase the results of the client’s research. I built the "Tool" using Bootstrap, JavaScript and JQuery outside of the WordPress system. I did this so the tool would do exactly what I needed it to do. The Tool required noaccess to the database, so a plug-in would have been more then the client needed and increase the size of the site beyond what it had to be. Once the client approved the functionality of the tool, I integrated it into the site through CSS.

Branding:

The client was originally unsure what she wanted the logo to look like. I began with thumbnail sketches and worked with the project manager to refine the ideas before presenting them to the client. It took a few iterations and combinations of ideas to reach a design the client liked, but eventually a logo was chosen.
